Using Immะตrsion Silvะตr for a Quality PCB Finish

Immะตrsion silvะตr plating is a procะตss in thะต ะตlะตctronics industry for coating surfacะตs with a thin layะตr of silvะตr. The purpose of this procะตss is to ะตnhancะต thะต conductivity of thะต surfacะตs, improvะต soldะตrability, and providะต corrosion rะตsistancะต. OSP (Organic Solderability Preservative) formulations do not prevent copper oxidation under high temperature, lead-free assembly processes.

While mainly used in PCB production to allow high density component mounting that HASL (Hot Air Solder Level) is not capable of, the immersion silver process provides an ideal soldering surface using lead-free assembly temperatures.

With proper packaging and storage conditions it has excellent shelf life.

Because it is a low temperature process, it will not attack the substrate or solder mask. The immersion silver deposits only on copper, and not on other areas (such as can be seen with autocatalytic baths).
